2024 Budget: Katsina State Government Prioritizes Water Resources and Education

In a strategic move to fortify crucial sectors, the Katsina state government has designated 20.35 percent of its 2024 budget to water resources and 20.13 percent to education. 

Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Alhaji Bello Kagara, unveiled this allocation during the budget presentation at the old state government house on Monday.

Governor Dikko Radda submitted a robust budget proposal of 454.3 billion Naira to the State Assembly for review and approval, signaling a noteworthy increase of 153.6 billion Naira compared to the 2023 budget.

Breaking down the allocations, Commissioner Bello Kagara highlighted, "Water is allocated 67.1 billion Naira, representing 20.35 percent, and education receives 66.4 billion Naira, constituting 20.13 percent."

Notable allocations extend to services with 53.4 billion Naira (16.20 percent), health with 38.3 billion Naira (11.62 percent), and the environment with 37.7 billion Naira (11.43 percent). Agriculture secured 20.5 billion Naira, accounting for 6.21 percent, while other ministries and agencies were granted 46.3 billion Naira.

Kagara underscored that domestic revenue is estimated at 40 billion Naira, with a tax (VAT) component of 203.8 billion Naira. Furthermore, pensions and gratuities are allocated at 17.9 billion Naira.

This strategic budget distribution underscores the Katsina state government's commitment to fortifying essential sectors pivotal for the holistic development and well-being of its citizens.
